The Trinity Demonstrator is the first development stage of Trinity. It is a 1.5 m2 imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescope.
The Trinity Demonstrator is located on Frisco Peak, UT, at an altitude of 9,500 ft above sea level. From there, it can image air showers up to 100 miles away. It is a perfect spot for demonstrating the Trinity concept. With the Demonstrator, we study potential sources of background, prove remote operation, demonstrate technological readiness, and maybe observe the first neutrinos.
The Demonstrator is pointing in the direction where the blazar TXS 0506+056 and the active galaxy NGC 1068 set below the horizon. The IceCube Collaboration reported neutrinos from the direction of these two objects.
The Demonstrator started taking data on October 3rd, 2023.
The Demonstrator is funded by the National Science Foundation.
